My Story

I founded ESN Enterprises Inc, a residential remodeling company, in 1997. The company grew to a homebuilding company in 2005, and moved to the commercial industry in 2007. ESN Enterprises continued to grow and became a prime GC for Havertys Furniture, and continues to work with Havertys on major renovation projects throughout the southeast. As ESN became more and more self sufficient, I entertained my love of fitness and helping others by obtaining licensing in the fitness industry from NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), and became an adult fitness coach at Dawson Wellness Center. In 2019 a major knee surgery kept me sofa bound for 2 months. I used this time to chase an old programming hobby. During those months, which quickly tranistioned into the Covid-19 lockdowns, I studied, practiced, learned and grew into a coder. Today I spend my time learning, coding, coaching and leading ESN.

Coding

Coding has become my passion. Technically I am self taught, but in reality I have been guided by my oldest son Turner, who is a programming genius, and our surrogate son / his roommate Dean, who is a web wizard. My structured learning came from:
🔵 iOS 13, Swift 5, London AppBrewery
🔵 The Complete 2020 Web Development Bootcamp, London AppBrewery
🔵 100 Days of Code, The Complete Python Pro Bootcamp for 2021, London AppBrewery
🔵 100 Days of SwiftUI, Hacking With Swift, Paul Hudson

Fitness

I have always loved sports and competition. Running, Soccer and CrossFit seem to be in my blood. Playing led to coaching, including 16 seasons of youth coaching throughout my kids' childhoods. As that phase came to an end, I wanted to continue coaching, so I pursued adult fitness training. In my spare time, I continue to coach CrossFit classes at Dawson Wellness with the occasional personal training client. Qualifications include:
🔵 Certified Personal Trainer, NASM
🔵 Correction Exercise Specialist, NASM
🔵 CF-L1, CrossFit

Business

At my core, I am an entrepreneur. I founded ESN Enterprises, a general contracting firm, in 1997. In 2005 I sold 50% to my father-in-law Tony Smith to help grow the business. Today ESN is a multi-million dollar commercial GC firm operating throughout the southeast. My day to day tasks in the business have diminished, allowing me time to pursue other opportunities. To date, this has included real estate investments, consulting roles and short term partnerships to aid with business growth. I feel a tech start-up in my future is inevitable…
Past / Present General Contractor Licenses:
🔵 Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee
🔵 Louisiana, Texas
🔵 Missouri, Kentucky

Hobbies

Hobbies are the spice of life, and I have a few. Traveling with my wife and sons tops the list. Exploring new places and experiencing life is our jam! Of course, I wouldn’t be a true programmer if I wasn’t a gamer at heart. Minecraft, World of Warcraft, Nintendo Switch games with the family are all favorites. Before my knee surgery, I could be found on the pitch every Sunday playing organized soccer, and now am considering refereeing to continue participating in my favorite sport. Finally, my love of competition led me to poker many years ago. When time permits I travel the WSOP circuit, and try to attend the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas annually. Some of my poker accomplishments:
🔵 First place chop, Venetian Deep Stack, Big O
🔵 17th place, Circuit Main Event, Tunica
🔵 Multiple cashes, World Series of Poker, Las Vegas
🔵 Multiple cashes, World Series of Poker Circuit
